Knoydart Ferry: Your Questions Answered

How many people can you take?

We can transport a maximum of 12 passengers on each boat. However we can run more boats in tandem to accommodate bigger parties.

How long is the crossing?

It takes approximately 25 minutes to cross from Mallaig to Inverie.

What kind of boats do you operate?

We have two 13-metre Safehaven Marine, Interceptor 42, The Venturer & The Vanguard, which are eminently capable of weathering the sometimes choppy waters of Loch Nevis. We also have the Meri 3, a 12-metre miniature landing craft, and the Odyssey, a fast jet boat. All four boats are fully coded to MCA standards.

What can I bring with me?

Anything that will fit on our boat... kayaks, fishing tackle, camping gear, dogs, and whatever else you want to bring on holiday! You won’t find much use for your car here, but we can transport vehicles and trailers by special arrangement.

Can I be picked up or dropped off anywhere?

Yes, as long as we can land there, and it's within the range of our vessels. We can't, for example, take you to Iceland or Norway!

However, with the Sea Taxi service, we can take you to anywhere on Knoydart, plus lots of places around Scotland’s north-west coast and the islands. We’re here to help - just give us a ring with your enquiry.

Do I need to book?

Yes - the sea taxi and boat charter need to be booked in advance. Even if you require the regular ferry service, we would strongly advise you to ring us beforehand.
